Galveston, for its size, sports a surprising number of diverse housing environments. Perhaps that's part of its charm--it's not just a beach town (although the beaches are definitely pretty). Let's look at a few of the different areas of Galveston. If you're thinking of buying a home in the Galveston area, you have the freedom to search for the area that best fits your needs and represents your unique personality.

We'll start with the historic district, which is located on the eastern side of the island. Home prices can be a bit more expensive on this side, as residences are located closer to the commercial districts and Galveston's famous Strand. Consider the historic East End, Silk Stocking, or the strand areas. Many homes in this area are over 100 year old Storm survivors. This are is typically thought of as "in-town".

As you travel west, you'll notice a lot of change. The middle areas of Galveston include Havre Lafitte, Colony Park, Campeche Cove. Havre Lafitte is one of the most beautiful communities in all of Galveston, featuring a man-made lake. Colony Park is a more modestly-priced alternative very close to the beach. Campeche Cove is a neat inland-side community that features lagoon-style waterways and a vastly different lifestyle to the hustle and bustle of the East End.

The West End, geographically the longest in terms of beach property, is an area of contrast. There are beautiful beach-side mansions that sell for near to one million dollars, and there are also small and affordable first homes scattered about its undeveloped terrain. Some of the beachfront land is even cattle land. In Galveston, you can afford to be picky because your dream home is surely somewhere on the island.
