Dickens' On The Strand
Dickens on the strand 2009!October 1, 2009
This charming celebration is coming into its 36th year of operation. Dickins will be held December 5-6, and it's a unique occasion in which the Strand is transformed into a miniature old-style London. The event is located on the Strand and broadens to the surrounding areas. In a festive spirit, Charles Dickens’ characters “come to life” and can be seen nearly anywhere you look. This is a very family-friendly occasion that offers tons of holiday related activities.
“A Christmas Carol” is a Dickens’ favorite. You can dine while listening to Charles Dickens’ very own great-great grandson, Mark Charles Dickens, read excerpts from this novel. Here, along with several other locations, Mark Charles Dickens will be signing his ancestor’s legendary works.
This year London's Great Exhibition of 1851 will be recognized for the first time. In past years, the theme of Dickens’ on the Strand has been strictly London. This replicated exhibition makes it possible for you to take pleasure in the arts, foods, and music from other lands. Prince Albert created the first true World’s Fair in 1851. This was an affair in which surrounding nations gathered together, sharing and enjoying their differences.
Aside from these specific activities, there are many more activities that you can engage in. Take a stroll down the Strand, and grab a bite to eat or stop at one of vendors.
